Fort Beekenburg
Curacao has been occupied in the past by the English, the Spanish and the Dutch.
Ships in those days had no engine and so they had to sail into a large bay to drop anchor / attack and get ashore.
For protection the Dutch built a large fort with canons to protect the Island from invadors.
All the stones to build the fort were brought in by Dutch sailing ships as balast.
The fort is around the corner of Domicil's dock and very much worth a visit.
